20 Feb Time to embrace the F-bomb
We’re only two months into the new year and I am already growing concerned. Concerned with what I see all around me. People already becoming complacent. Two months into the calendar year and folks are taking their eyes off their goals.
How is it that we have barely entered what could be your the year ever & folks have already lost it? You know what’s missing? A good old fashioned F-bomb. And, I’m about to drop one!
It’s time for each and every one of you to embrace my absolute most favorite “F-word”:
Say it with me folks: F-O-C-U-S!
I want to see and hear this F-bomb from people of all ages, and in all industries. I want to hear you proclaim it loud proud. Not sure how to really own this F-bomb?. Struggling to stay FOCUSED on your goals? Here are seven tips to help:
#1 Make sure your goals are written and measurable. While this may sound like common sense, I find that business owners and professionals rarely have clear, objective and measurable goals outlined in writing. FOCUS on getting yours down on paper.
#2 Break your goals down. Goals are much easier to tackle when they are divided into bite-sized chunks: weekly, monthly, quarterly — whatever best fits your business or industry, and your approach to attacking them. This allows you to better FOCUS your efforts.
#3 Develop strategies to attack your goals. While putting your goals down on paper increases the likelihood you will accomplish them, nothing ups your chances quite like defining the precise activities and strategies needed to hit them. What do you need to do, who do you need to meet, and what habits do you need to form to ensure your efforts are FOCUSED?
#4 Take control: Manage your time….don’t let it manage you. The most successful people I work with (and the happiest) have complete control over their time. While they are certainly busy, they are intentional regarding what and with whom they spend their time. And they FOCUS their efforts only on those things.
#5 AVOID distractions & time wasters: If it’s not bringing you energy or moving you closer to your goals, say “No!.” If it’s not your strength, or of someone could do it better, outsource. To truly go after what matters to you (personally & professionally), you have to let go of the things that don’t. FOCUS on what matters.
#6 Be diligent about posting & planning. Take time at the end of each day to recap and take stock of what you accomplished during the day, as well as to plan for the following day by outlining the tasks and to dos you have on your plate. Next, assess the “white space” in your calendar for the following day and slot your tasks in there. The goal is to know ahead of time what you will tackle during your free minutes. This allows you to remain FOCUSED and on task, even on the busiest of days. It is efficiency at its finest.
#7 Celebrate your wins. Let’s face it, you’re gonna have some bad meetings, or some bad days. Celebrating your “wins,” no matter how small will help keep your energy up & keep you FOCUSED on your goals.
Drop that F-bomb with me my friends…..FOCUS!!
Now, get after it!
