What it really means to #RiseUp

What it really means to #RiseUp

Having lived back in Atlanta for just about five years now (moved away after spending my entire childhood here), I am finally starting to settle back into some old Southern traditions…..SEC football, southern cooking, Friday night lights, and the vocabulary of a true G.R.I.T (“Girl Raised in the South”)…..Bless your little hearts, y’all know what I’m talking about!

There is one Southern phrase that seems to have been thrown around a bit more frequently of late. I’ve heard it on television, on the radio, and even heard it uttered from the mouth of my Connecticut-born little one. That phrase…..RISE UP! Thanks to Atlanta’s beloved Falcons, the whole city has come together to support this team & it’s mantra — all of them encouraging this group of men to #RiseUp.

If you managed to make it all the way through the overtime comeback of the Patriots last night, you know the Falcons didn’t exactly come out on top. However, despite the outcome, they did something not many people or organizations have been able to do lately in the divisive world we find ourselves in. The Falcons, along with their city, taught everyone (including the Patriots) what is means to #RiseUp.

Here’s what I mean:

The Atlanta Falcons are, by NFL standards, a pretty young & inexperienced team. The didn’t let that stop them from playing hard all season. THEY knew they belonged in the big game.
THE LESSON: KNOW YOU BELONG IN GAME

The Falcons were a huge underdog going into the SuperBowl, but they came out swinging, (at least the first half!) with the grit & hunger found only in people who are giving their all.
THE LESSON: BE RELENTLESS…..no matter who says it can’t be done

Love him or hate him, Tom Brady is a force to be reckoned with. He may have been getting his butt handed to him early on, but he knows what victory tastes like and he didn’t stop until he had it. Even playing from a pretty large deficit, he and his team knew what they wanted and they fought every step to claim it.
THE LESSON: THE GAME ISN’T OVER UNTIL IT’S OVER…..so, don’t let off the gas

People all over this city (and all over the country for that matter) were united by a cause….. they came together to #RiseUp for the little guys…..for the ones who didn’t give up…..for the ones that proved that to play with the big guys, all you have to do is give it your all!
THE LESSON: WINNING & LOSING IS BETTER WHEN WE ARE ALL IN IT TOGETHER

Are you ready to #RiseUp in your career and in your life. It’s the start of a new day…..a whole new season. Time to get to work!
